Currently living in?
Santa Cruz California. We do travel a lot though so
I am filling this out from South Africa.
Where would you live if you could live anywhere?
Interesting question
because we kinda can and we still choose to live in Santa Cruz. That being said we talk all
the time about where else we could live and usually end up looking at houses in Australia,
South Africa, Hawaii or a huge piece of land in North Carolina.
Do you have a nickname?
Manimal but I haven't gone by it in years. I
think it may have retired with me. I probably go by Dad more now than anything else.
You can only have one type of food the rest of your life, what is it?
Cheeseburgers
and Fries.
Bucket list travel destination or experience?
A surf trip to cloud break
sounds pretty fun!
Scary movies, yes or no?
hell no. Why would you do that to
yourself?
Top burger recommendation?
This is actually kind of a shocker but there
is a breakfast/lunch spot in Santa Cruz called Zachary's that has an amazing cheeseburger
with thick peppered bacon, 1/2 an avocado, and is on a super soft bun. Its a solid 10 in my
book.
Favorite coffee spot?
Cat and Cloud no question about
it.
Favorite non-CrossFit sport?
Surfing
What do you wish you had time to learn or do more of?
Blacksmithing and
knife making! I do it a little currently but I need some more time to refine the
craft.
One thing no one knows about you?
I am not the biggest fan of working
out. I train not because I like it but because I know it’s good for me. For years it was so
that I could compete but now I only train because I know if I don't i feel like poo.
What's the quality or life experience you can point to that has most contributed to
your success (whatever success means to you)?
Honesty/transparency
and a willingness to confront. It has got me into a lot of hot water throughout life but I
have never had to compromise my values in a work or relationship setting because people
always know where I stand. As I age the ability to calmly and more delicately disagree has
developed so life has become a bit easier than times past.
What’s next?
Next is the continued focus on my family and businesses.
